Las Palmas Cruise Port is enhancing its services for cruise passengers with the opening of a new Flemingo Duty Free store inside the terminal. Operated by JVFA Spain Travel Retail, a joint venture between Flemingo Duty Free and Altimex S.L., the new outlet expands the port’s retail offering and provides additional shopping opportunities for travellers passing through Gran Canaria.
The opening, which took place on 23 October 2026, is part of Flemingo Duty Free’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the Spanish cruise market and further develop its partnership with Global Ports Holding (GPH), the company operating Las Palmas Cruise Port. The aim is to make the terminal an increasingly comprehensive and welcoming facility, where retail services contribute to enhancing the passenger experience both before and after a cruise.
The new store offers a selection of travel retail products, combining international brands with items that reflect the distinctive character of the destination. The range is designed not only to meet travellers’ needs but also to give them an introduction to the local products and specialities of the area.
Susana Gutiérrez, Managing Director of GPH Canary Islands Cruise Ports, highlighted how the opening represents another step in the port’s ongoing commitment to improving its services and making the terminal much more than a simple embarkation and disembarkation point. The facility aims to become a modern, welcoming space that meets visitors’ expectations while also helping promote Gran Canaria to the international cruise market.
For Flemingo International, the project also goes beyond the traditional concept of duty-free retail. P. K. Thimmayya, the company’s CEO, emphasized that cruise passengers are increasingly interested in discovering what makes the destinations they visit unique. This is why the company aims to complement international brands with a selection of genuinely local products and experiences that showcase the region and add value to the travel experience.
Thimmayya also highlighted Las Palmas’ rich cultural and historical heritage, expressing the intention to develop a strong, long-term retail business that will give local artisans and producers an international platform to showcase their creations and expertise.
The opening of the store is part of a broader programme to develop the retail offering across the Spanish cruise terminals operated by Global Ports Holding. The network also includes ports such as Tarragona, Alicante, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where the expansion of commercial services is helping make port facilities increasingly responsive to the needs of cruise tourism.
With this new initiative, Las Palmas continues to enhance its terminal, strengthening the port’s role as a gateway to Gran Canaria and a key hub for cruise traffic in the Canary Islands. By bringing together passenger services, shopping and the promotion of local products, the project highlights the importance of a welcoming port environment that extends beyond embarkation and disembarkation, making the time spent in port a meaningful part of the overall travel experience.
