Shieldhall is a historic steamship operating out of Southampton. Over the years it has made regular trips from Shieldhall to Glasgow, Scotland, along the River Clyde and Firth of Clyde past the Isle of Arran, to dump treated sewage sludge into the sea. These steamers had a tradition, dating back to the First World War, of bringing organized groups of passengers on their voyages during the summer.
The SS Shieldhall has been preserved over time and the accommodations are now used for cruises. The ship provides a working example of steamship machinery both above and below deck, typical of cargo and passenger ships that traveled from the 1870s to the mid-1960s, by which time they became almost completely extinct.
