SALT Lab Radio: the Silver Moon’s gastronomic culture
S.A.L.T. Lab Radio is the new podcast launched by Silversea Cruises which focuses on the same interests and same gastronomic culture promoted onboard their fleet in the “S.A.L.T.” Program, which stands for Sea and Land Taste.
The central theme is that of discovering the world of gastronomic culture and onboard cuisine, in particular on their brand new ship, the Silver Moon, which is soon to be delivered to the company. Hosted by Adam Sachs, the director of the S.A.L.T. program for Silversea and the ex-editor in chief of Saveur Magazine, the podcast is enriched by famous and special guests.
“These days, all of us need stories that transport us somewhere else. We plan to involve local experts on the ground to guide us and create connections with places that go beyond the usual talk about what and where to eat in that particular location, even if there will be many practical tips that are useful to the hungry traveler,” explained Sachs. “We will follow the journey of the Silver Moon and meet passionate chefs, winemakers, food writers and other experts to help us appreciate the places we visit through the lens of what they grow and cook there.”
The planned series will closely follow not only the journey of the Silver Moon but also, because of this, it will follow the S.A.L.T. program cuisine served on board, which is always tied to the region the ship is sailing in.
The S.A.L.T. Lab Radio will allow those who listen to it to understand the origins of the dishes and local traditions, and bring all of us closer to a more well-informed food education.
The first episode is already available and highlights the border region between Italy and Slovenia. In this first episode, Sachs talks to three innovators along the Italy-Slovenia border: Ana Roš, considered by many to be the best Slovenian chef and co-owner of Hiša Franko, the first Slovenian restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star; Mateja Gravner, a winemaker at the Gravner family’s illustrious winery which straddles the Italian-Slovenian border, who uses ancient winemaking techniques; and Antonia Klugmann, head chef and owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant L’Argine in Vencò in Collio, Italy.
In addition to Ana’s research on how to best exalt her ingredients, the obstacles that Mateja’s family face and the way Antonia draws influence from her complicated legacy, Sachs dives into the most famous cookbook from Trieste, with ancient winemaking techniques and the most amazing potato in the world.

Other episodes will be available in the coming weeks, with captivating dives in the culinary culture of Albania, Sicily and Lisbon. Subsequently, with the travel of the Silver Moon toward the Caribbean and South America, future series will explore the culinary culture of these regions as well.
