Silversea confirms new ships and protects its guests

Barbara Muckermann, Chief Marketing Officer, and Mark Conroy, Managing Director for the Americas, illustrated in an online conference the measures being taken by Silversea Cruises to counter the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Protection for passengers both on board and not yet departed but with booked cruises was announced by Silversea. The policy, which includes a guarantee of a 125% credit for the value of cancelled itineraries, was welcomed by Silversea clients, many of whom took advantage of the policy and booked future cruises with the company. As well, travel agents will receive commission on the cruises that have already been paid in full by customers.

It was also revealed that the Silver Origin is about to be delivered to the company. After delivery it will be transferred to Ecuador and from there to its final destination of the Galapagos Islands. All the other on-order ships of the brand, which has now entered into the Royal Caribbean universe, are confirmed, albeit with delivery dates that are not yet finalized. Fincantieri has the Silver Moon and the Silver Dawn in the pipeline, while Meyer Werft has gotten confirmation for the construction of two more units that were already planned but certainly not to be taken for granted.

The operation for the return home of personnel and passengers was not simple for cruise companies and Silversea was no exception. However, they dedicated themselves to completing everything that was necessary as safely and quickly as possible. They chartered 24 flights for the return of passengers on their fleet, followed by a series of transfers for the repatriation of crew members.

At the present time, two ships still have crew members on board in Southampton, and three units are stopped in Marseille. The Silver Muse will be engaged in a 25-day transfer from Panama to Manila to take the Filipino crew home. While the Silver Explorer will be committed to bringing European personnel back to Europe.

The attention that Silversea Cruises is giving to everyone, from passengers to crews to tour operators, has been well-received and brought satisfaction. Hopefully it will be rewarded with the full confidence of current and potential customers, and eventually lead to a soon and much-needed recovery for them and for the entire cruise sector.
