A Cruise to Miami, the Magic City

Cruising Journal, the international portal for cruise ship reviews, takes you to Miami! Have fun in Miami during a cruise stopover in the Cruising Journal tips.

Explore Miami beyond its beautiful beaches and take in the hidden art and history of this ever-growing city.

Miami is the perfect city for tourists. With endless attractions and possibilities, you’re sure to find the right activity to fill your time in this magnificent city.

How to get to Miami

Miami is certainly present in many cruise itineraries. Norwegian Cruise Lines, MSC Cruises and Azamara Cruises offer varied tours that include a stop in Miami, as does Royal Caribbean.

You could also sail aboard one of the Disney Cruise Line vessels, where you’ll be entertained by your childhood heroes as you comfortably travel to your destination.

Zoological Wildlife Foundation

The Zoological Wildlife Foundation, a popular zoo in Miami, offers hands-on guided tours that include close-up encounters with wildlife. On this tour, your guides will teach you all about the different animals you’ll see, with a focus on their conservation status. The objective of this foundation is to educate people on the animals that live there and the dangers that they face in the wild, such as extinction due to human interference.

Due to the small size of this zoo and the dedicated design of its tours, all visits must be scheduled in advance to avoid overcrowding.

Erotic Art Museum

Naomi Wilzig’s accidental collection of art pieces, a serendipitous series of purchases, form the basis of the WEAM, which is now the only museum in the United States that is devoted exclusively to fine erotic art. It includes over 4,000 works from international artists – an impressive number for a private collection – ranging from prehistoric art to modern and contemporary art. The collection continues to grow to this day and is a testament to erotic art throughout human history.

Deering Estate

The Deering Estate is a cultural asset and historic site that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now a museum that hosts a variety of programs, tours and events throughout the year. The estate was acquired and expanded by Charles Deering in the early 1910s and remained in the Deering family until 1986 when it was purchased by the State of Florida and added to the National Registry of Historic Places.

Street Art Tour

Take a walk through Miami’s hottest spot for street art with the Wynwood Art Walk. On their tour, you’ll learn about many street artists and their individual techniques, as well as how the Wynwood Walls came to be and how they are curated. This splash of colour and breath of fresh creativity is surely an experience that you cannot miss if you are passionate about art.

Everglades Airboat Tour

Everglades River of Grass Adventures is a small, private company that takes to heart its mission of helping people explore the Everglades in the best way possible. Each captain has their own route and their own stops throughout the Everglades, giving you a personalised adventure. During this tour, your guide will talk with your group about the history of the Everglades and its current events, and they will even show you the flora and fauna, just as nature made it – no alligator wrestling or caged animals included. During your adventure, you’ll get the chance to see alligators, egrets, great blue herons, turtles, crocodiles, whitetail deer, black bears and even the elusive Florida panther. If you’re a fan of nature and wildlife, be sure not to miss out on this special adventure.

Sight-tasting Boat Tour

See and taste Miami on this sightseeing cruise by Fiesta Cruises. Here, you’ll experience Miami’s beautiful sights, all while sampling a selection of popular dishes from the many different Hispanic cultures that have shaped Miami into the city it is today. You’ll even be entertained by great music and funny stories about this beautiful city.

If you enjoy fishing, don’t miss out on the opportunity to take an adventure out to sea with one of the many charters departing from the marina. Various challenges await the avid fisherman – but fun is always assured.
